Proofs of Labour is a conceptual cross-stitch installation that represents how women often work tirelessly, only to have their labour undervalued. The work questions productivity, as well as categorization of art and craft within the hierarchy of fine art. Donen logged hours spent cross-stitching white threads on Aida cloth, using a 24 inch embroidery hoop. Index cards are displayed with handwritten labour logs indicating the dates and time spent stitching (74 hours total). After completing the cross-stitch, Donen proceeded to unravel the stitched threads and documented those hours as well. The unstitched threads are displayed in 16 glass jars on a shelf with labels indicating the date and hours spent unstitching (48 hours total).
