May 6, 2017 is a handmade photo book that documents an instruction-based photo walk, through the Downtown Exchange District in Winnipeg, MB, shot on 35mm film. The f-stop and shutter speeds for each frame were pre-determined. Therefore, each photograph taken required thought and consideration, before capturing the ideal light for a balanced exposure.

The process of taking the photos using a pre-established list of settings was structured and mechanical. Alternately, the photo book emphasizes the imperfections of the human hand in the work. Throughout the book there are spots of developer on the prints, hand-written captions, as well as other subtleties that unravel a visual story-telling of the maker’s hand in the work. These imperfections of the human-made are juxtaposed with the initial mechanical process used when taking the photographs.
